YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

OVERVIEW

Our Youth Development program is a holistic program that focuses on supporting youth ages (14-21). Our program is dedicated to uplifting youth emotionally, supporting youth academically, and exposing youth to knowledge and career pursuits within the city of Chicago. An emphasis on understanding each student’s needs and goals is at the forefront of the program. We have a "meet you where you are" philosophy which allows us to build personal relationships with the students and provide the necessary tools and resources needed for each student to get closer to achieving their personal goals.

Our Youth Development program takes place during the Academic School Year and meets (1-2) times a month with the students. For the past two years we have held Youth Development sessions on the following topics: Identity, Self-Evaluation and Reflection, Financial Literacy, Values, Public Speaking, Interviewing, Resume Building, Personal Branding, Health and Wellness, Goal-Setting and Entrepreneurship. In addition to our monthly sessions, we also engage youth in community service initiatives within their neighborhoods.

OUR RESULTS

SINCE 2015

50 % of students have matriculated out of the foster care system

90% of youth that are of age to have employment, have obtained jobs

MENTORING

At Chicago Youth Opportunities Initiative, we believe that everyone needs someone to help guide and lead them, which is why we have a Mentoring Program in addition to our Youth Development program. Our Youth Development and Mentoring Programs work hand-in-hand

"Chicago Youth Opportunities Initiative is committed to making a difference in the lives of youth.  I've watched as CYOI has captivated and excited a group of youth to dare to believe in themselves.  CYOI walked along side of the youth as they explored hidden treasures buried under years of lost hope.  Even when some were distant , CYOI pursued the youth and were intent to engage and encourage. I think Chicago Youth Opportunities Initiative's impact is...Intriguing, it's Maturing, it's Preparing, it's Action taken, it's Cultivating, it's Teaching & Training."
